Counterfeit Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 7th Edition Concerns

The American Academy of Pediatrics has become aware of a large number of counterfeit Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 7th Edition manuals within the marketplace.

Many who have purchased the counterfeit manuals have contacted the AAP to express concern about the poor quality.

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Steering Committee wants to caution the NRP community that counterfeit texts may have content changes or errors that can result in errors that may impact patient safety/care. Additional complaints about the counterfeit texts include: missing pages, insecure bindings, slanted text, blurry and pixelated pictures, and inaccurate colors that don’t support clinical guidance.

There are several indicators that a text or seller may be selling a fake or counterfeit, including:

  • A book listed as “new” by a seller, but sold at a much lower price than other copies in the marketplace

  • Books listed as “used, but in new condition” are frequently counterfeit – consumers should investigate the marketplace seller before making a purchase and read previous purchase reviews

  • New marketplace storefronts are less likely to be reputable resellers than those with longevity – counterfeiters need to frequently open new accounts due to copyright enforcement by publishers

Buyers are cautioned to read seller reviews and check for product and customer reviews that indicate concerns about quality.
